It was the year 1992 and I was 8 years old when i got my first real taste of Michael Jackson's music, I was at an old neighbour of my grandparents house when he put on a cassette tape for my to listen to, a new Michael Jackson album named Dangerous. From the first moment I heard 'Black and White' i was hooked and from that point on went on a mission to pillage and plunder as much of Michael's music as possible from raiding bargain bins at music store to making duplicates of others tapes on my first boom box that I got for christmas and I loved all of it.
I think the main reason myself and others of my generation have been so affected by the loss of Michael is that his music was really a turning point in my life from not really listening to music to having music as a major part of my life which it still continues to be.
My affinity with Michael has lasted ever since and while at times being a fan of Michael Jackson was not always easy and many times was a source of ridicule from the sheep who no nothing but what TV tells them, the bond held strong.
I remember sitting outside of Adelaide Oval listeing to his concert as part of the history tour and then waiting for his car to leave at the gate and to recieve a handshake from the great man when he got out of his vehicle and proceeded to walk from the Oval to the Hyatt while being mobbed by thousands of people, which is still one of the most surreal moments that i can rememeber.
Michael Jackson is the greatest influence on urban music there has ever been and will will continue to listen to MJ influenced artists such as JT, Usher, Britney, Beyonce and countless others.
Nobody knows what really happens behind closed doors all I can say is, Thank you Michael Jackson for leading me to a life of music that I would be a poorer man without.
